Unaccredited universities jeopardizing students'
future, Says Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain
Minister for Federal Education and Professional
Training, Rana Tanveer Hussain, underlined the critical importance of obtaining
official accreditation, particularly the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from
the Higher Education Commission (HEC), before granting charter approval to
universities.
Addressing the National Assembly regarding the
Higher Education Commission (Amendment) Bill 2023, Minister Rana Tanveer
Hussain emphasized the legal prerequisites for university establishment and
stressed the need to secure an 'NOC.' He highlighted the potential risks posed
to students' futures if such procedures are not followed.
Minister Hussain expressed his concern over the
operation of several universities without the required NOC, despite having
received charter approval. This misalignment has led to the issuance of degrees
lacking HEC's endorsement, rendering them invalid. He strongly underscored that
degrees from such institutions hold no credibility.
Reflecting on past instances, the minister
highlighted cases where charter approvals were granted by provincial
authorities without the necessary HEC clearance. He deemed this approach
unsustainable. Minister Hussain also shared his own experience with an unauthorized
university, where awareness notices were circulated to expose its unauthorized
operations.
