Pakistan's Senate presents and passes multiple bills related to
Higher Education Institutions
In a significant legislative session, the Senate
witnessed the introduction and discussion of 33 bills centered around the
establishment of higher education institutions across the nation. These bills,
previously endorsed by the National Assembly, were presented as part of the
Senate's commitment to advancing the educational landscape.
Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for Federal
Education and Professional Training, emphasized the importance of approving
these educational bills, which had already received the seal of approval from
the Higher Education Commission.
Among the bills that successfully gained
passage, two stood out prominently. The bills introduced by Senator Saleem
Mandviwalla, 'The Federal Ziauddin University Bill, 2023,' and Senator
Naseebullah Bazai's 'The Prime University of Nursing Sciences Technology
Islamabad, 2021,' were both endorsed by the Senate. This signifies a
significant stride towards enhancing educational opportunities.
However, a substantial portion of the bills—31
in total—were referred to relevant committees for comprehensive examination and
refinement.
Senator Rana Mahmood ul Hassan presented a set
of nine bills, including 'The Promotion and Protection of Gandhara Culture
Authority Bill, 2023,' 'The Thar International Institute Bill, 2023,' and
others, each aimed at enriching the educational landscape.
Senator Engr. Rukhsana Zuberi contributed five
bills, including 'The University of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Bill, 2023,' to
enhance the educational spectrum.
Furthermore, Senator Irfan ul Haq Siddiqui
presented three bills for further consideration, including 'The International
Islamic Institute for Peace (IIIP) Bill, 2023.'
The Senate also passed three bills presented by
Senator Hafiz Abdul Karim, Senator Kamran Murtaza, and Senator Shahdat Awan,
respectively; 'The Criminal Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2023,' 'The Protection of
Family Life and Wedlock Bill, 2023,' and 'The Federal Public Service Commission
(Amendment) Bill, 2023.' These bills were approved with majority votes in the
house.
Apart from educational matters, other bills were
also referred to relevant committees for further assessment, highlighting the
Senate's commitment to comprehensive deliberation.
