HEC provides training to representatives from
Sindh Universities on upcoming ranking criteria
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of
Pakistan organized comprehensive training sessions for Sindh universities'
representatives on the upcoming ranking parameters, following successful
orientation sessions in Islamabad and Lahore on ranking criteria and data
collection software.
Over 100 focal persons from 51 eligible
universities in Sindh participated in the four-day training sessions. This
group included 21 public and 30 private universities.
The training covered essential skills needed to
comprehend the ranking data collection process, parameters, and the online
system. It also emphasized attaching substantial evidence to support data
submission.
The Chief Guest of the inaugural sessions, Ms.
Noor Amna Malik, Managing Director of the National Academy of Higher Education
(NAHE), expressed her appreciation for resuming university rankings. She noted
that it signifies a shared commitment to academic excellence, research, and
societal engagement. She lauded the Higher Education Data Repository Division
of HEC and NAHE for their collaboration in delivering comprehensive training on
the ranking data collection system.
Ms. Malik highlighted the vital role of Quality
Enhancement Cells (QECs) in collecting and submitting accurate data to HEC. She
urged QECs to convey the urgency of this activity to their respective Vice
Chancellors.
Mr. Ghulam Nabi, Director General of HEC's
Higher Education Data Repository Division, welcomed the participants and
provided insights into the history of the previous six rankings announced by
HEC. He informed them that the HEC National University Ranking 2023 criteria
were developed in consultation with institutions, national, and international
experts to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive ranking process aligned with
the diverse needs of the country's higher education community.
Mr. Abdullah Fayyaz Chattha, Director-Technical
of HEC's Higher Education Data Repository Division, discussed the upcoming
ranking's significance as a turning point for enhancing academic quality and
research. He explained that the training encompassed thorough instructions on
using the EduStats program for data uploading, simplifying the process for
increased efficiency and accuracy in collecting ranking data.
