Saudi government establishes King Abdullah
campus in AJK University
Azad Jammu and Kashmir University (UAJK) has
officially unveiled the King Abdullah Campus, a remarkable establishment funded
by a generous $90 million grant from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the
Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).
The inauguration ceremony was led by Dr. Saud
bin Ayed Al-Shammari, the Director General of Asia Operations at SFD. Notable
attendees included Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, the President of the State of Azad
Jammu & Kashmir, along with Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, the Chairman of
the Higher Education Commission, and Professor Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, the
Vice Chancellor of the University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, along with
various officials from both sides.
The state-of-the-art King Abdullah Campus boasts
15 academic departments, administrative facilities, accommodations, a library,
a mosque, a cutting-edge auditorium, and other essential amenities. This
remarkable campus is poised to benefit over 10,000 students, faculty, and
staff, providing them with advanced research and educational prospects.
Importantly, the campus also contributes to Pakistan's sustainable
socio-economic advancement. It aligns with the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals, especially focusing on Quality Education (SDG4), Gender Equality
(SDG5), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG8), and Sustainable Cities and
Local Communities (SDG11), as highlighted in an official statement by SFD.
During the event, President Sultan Mehmood
Chaudhry of AJK expressed deep gratitude, acknowledging the pivotal role of the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, particularly under the visionary leadership of King
Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, following the catastrophic earthquake of 2005.
The Director General of SFD, in turn, emphasized
the organization's commitment to Pakistan's sustainable development,
underlining the longstanding and successful partnership that has persisted
between SFD and Pakistan for over 47 years. The King Abdullah Campus's
reconstruction following the 2005 earthquake is a testament to this collaborative
effort.
