HEC launches next phase for the Peridot Mobility grant program

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced the commencement of Phase-10 for the Peridot Mobility grant program. Starting from August 16th, 2023, until October 6th, 2023, applications are invited for this program through the online portal research.hec.gov.pk.

Peridot is a Franco-Pakistani Hubert Curien Partnership (PHC) Program that facilitates collaborative research activities between Pakistani and French researchers. The program aims to foster scientific and technological cooperation between higher education institutions and research laboratories in both countries by supporting the mobility of researchers.

Researchers can apply competitively, and the selection process will be merit-based and transparent, adhering to international standards. The program focuses on research in priority areas such as Sustainable Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Agriculture, Food Security, Health, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Emphasis will be given to projects addressing social challenges and environmental issues.

Applicants must be regular faculty members of higher education institutions in Pakistan, and the major cost of the research project will be shared by participating universities from both countries. The program supports mobility of researchers to and from Pakistan, with a focus on young researchers, particularly doctoral students under the supervision of principal investigators. The host institution must provide necessary facilities for visiting fellows.

Only one research project per principal investigator will be considered for funding, with equal financial support from HEC and the French counterpart for mobility expenses. The core research project costs will be borne by the relevant Pakistani and French universities/institutes.

Selection for PERIDOT awards will be conducted through an open and rigorous process, evaluated by independent experts in France and Pakistan, following international standards for funding academic research projects.

Overall, the Peridot Mobility grant program serves as an essential avenue for fostering research collaborations and academic exchanges between Pakistan and France.
