Fifty Four Pakistani undergraduates selected for U.S. Study under UGRAD
The U.S. Government has awarded scholarships to
fifty-four undergraduate students from across Pakistan as part of the Global
Undergraduate Semester Exchange (UGRAD) Program, allowing them to study in the
United States for one semester.
The Global UGRAD Program facilitates recipients
in enhancing their education by undertaking non-degree academic study at
various U.S. college campuses. During their tenure, students will attend
undergraduate classes at 51 U.S. colleges and universities, partake in
leadership workshops, and engage in community service projects.
To prepare for this unique experience, the
United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) organized a
comprehensive two-day pre-departure orientation in Islamabad. The orientation
covered aspects such as campus life, American culture, visa procedures, and
travel requirements.
Acting Deputy Chief of Mission William Ostick
remarked, "The undergraduate exchanges between the United States and
Pakistan create important opportunities for the students who travel and the
people they interact with and are an important part of strengthening the
relationship between our two countries." He added that the U.S. Government
takes pride in sponsoring these transformative opportunities and looks forward
to the accomplishments of these students as future leaders in Pakistan.
Representing diverse regions, including all four
provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and the Islamabad Capital
Territory, the cohort showcases a wide range of academic fields, including
business administration, social sciences, and STEM disciplines.
Since its inception in 2010, the Global UGRAD
Program has awarded approximately 2,440 Pakistani students—more than half of
them being women—this prestigious one-semester scholarship for U.S. study.
