Ethiopia and Pakistan to enhance cooperation in education
Ethiopia and Pakistan have agreed to establish a Joint
Working Group (JWG) to foster and coordinate collaboration in the field of
education. This decision emerged from a meeting between Ambassador Extraordinary
and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) to
Pakistan, Jemal Beker Abdula, and Pakistan's Federal Minister for Education and
Professional Training, Madad Ali Sindhi.
During the meeting, both diplomats discussed matters of
mutual interest, with a specific focus on bilateral cooperation within the
education sector, particularly in higher education and vocational training.

Minister Madad Ali Sindhi mentioned the formation of a Joint
Working Group as a step that could lead to the signing of a Memorandum of
Understanding between the two countries. He emphasized the significance of
sharing expertise and knowledge in the fields of vocational and technical
training, underscoring the substantial benefits that both nations could gain
from each other's experiences.
Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula expressed his approval of the
idea of establishing a Joint Working Group and highlighted the importance of
exchanging expert delegations to advance cooperation in the education sector.
He conveyed his country's eagerness to enhance bilateral collaboration in
education and assured his commitment to this endeavor.

Furthermore, the Ambassador requested the minister to
consider offering scholarships to Ethiopian students in Pakistan's public
sector universities. He also noted the strong connection between the people of
Ethiopia and Pakistan, citing the support provided by Ethiopian doctors, who had
studied in Pakistani universities, during the 2022 floods in Pakistan. These
doctors had expressed their readiness to assist their Pakistani counterparts in
challenging times.
