Book discusses challenges faced by Pakistan's education system  

Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood, Vice-Chancellor of Punjab University, has emphasized that in the realm of education, knowledge and skills should take precedence over mere degrees. 

He conveyed this message while speaking at the launch event of the book titled 'Pakistan: Education and the 21st Century,' authored by former Vice-Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University, Dr. Shahid Siddiqui. The event was organized by the Institute of Education and Research at Punjab University and took place at the Waheed Shaheed Hall.

The ceremony saw the presence of prominent figures, including AIOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mehmood, Dr. Shahid Siddiqui, a former VC and the author of the book, renowned educationist Dr. Tariq Rehman, Dr. Tayyaba Tamim from LUMS, Director of IER Prof. Dr. Abdul Qayyum Chaudhry, faculty members, and students.

In his address, Dr. Khalid Mahmood stressed that meaningful societal change cannot occur without education, and it is imperative for both the state and society to recognize this fact. He pointed out that Pakistan currently faces the challenge of over 25 million children who do not attend school, and addressing this issue requires a concerted effort and the implementation of effective education policies. Dr. Mahmood commended Dr. Shahid Siddiqui's work as an educationist and encouraged students to engage with his writings.

 

Education Minister vows to standardize government schools

 

Dr. Nasir Mehmood highlighted the importance of not only transmitting knowledge but also fostering an understanding of its significance to tackle societal issues effectively. Dr. Tariq Rehman noted that the book addresses various facets of education, making it a valuable read.

Dr. Tayyaba expressed the need for the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to take measures to make research papers and articles, often published in English, more accessible and understandable for students.

Dr. Shahid Siddiqui underscored that education is the key to transforming society, emphasizing its pivotal role in bringing about positive change.
