New national curriculum of Pakistan approved
After a span of seventeen years since the last curriculum was
introduced in 2006, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training
has granted approval for the new National Curriculum of Pakistan.
A notification has been released by the Ministry of Federal
Education and Professional Training to announce this development.
The process of curriculum development for grades 9 to 12 was
carried out in an inclusive manner, with relevant stakeholders involved at
every stage, as mentioned in the notification.
Extensive consultations were conducted with policymakers,
academics, practitioners, parents, and students from all over Pakistan to
gather their input. Policy dialogues were held nationwide, and numerous
curriculum workshops took place to gather feedback from the concerned parties.
Additionally, an online portal was made available for stakeholders to provide
their feedback.
Following regional curriculum workshops in each province, a
final curriculum workshop was held at the National Curriculum Council (NCC)
Secretariat in Islamabad. Experts from all provinces, Azad Jammu & Kashmir,
and Gilgit Baltistan participated and endorsed the curriculum for nine
subjects: Urdu, English, Islamiat, Pakistan Studies, Mathematics, Physics,
Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science.
To ensure effective implementation of the curriculum,
multiple stakeholder meetings were conducted. After thorough deliberations, the
curriculum has been notified for the Islamabad Capital Territory and
institutions under the Federal Ministries.
In addition to the notification, an implementation plan has
been issued.
