Corporal punishment to be banned in Punjab
Corporal punishment in educational institutions
across Punjab will be banned.
The decision has been made Punjab Chief
Minister Pervaiz Elahi during a meeting with the Pakistani Nobel Peace Prize
winner Malala Yousafzai in Lahore.
The Chief Minister said a bill will be tabled
in the provincial assembly to prohibit physical punishment in Punjab’s schools
and seminaries.
During the meeting, Punjab Chief Minister and Malala Yousafzai
discussed various plans and education projects in Pakistan that wou
ld be paid
for by the Malala Fund.
They also talked about how to improve education in the
province, especially for girls.
Corporal punishment criminalized in
Sindh
Sindh government has already criminalized corporal punishment, mental
torture, and abuse of children at schools, madrasas, and workplaces under the
Sindh Prohibition of Corporal Punishment Act 2016.
Notified on Monday by the Provincial Education and Literacy Department, the new rules of the Act prohibit every kind of physical and mental violence against children.
