Experts call for enhancing links between academia and
maritime industry
Experts have called for enhancing links between academia
and maritime industry of the country to explore true potential of this vital
sector.
The concurrence came during an interactive session held
at National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) in Karachi.
Vice Admiral (R) Abdul Aleem, Director General NIMA, highlighted
the importance of linkage between maritime industry and the marine think tank
for conducting market oriented research. He said the industry will benefit from
this association and the sector would be able to contribute significantly to
the GDP of Pakistan.
The stakeholders put forward various suggestions and assured their
continued support in future as well.
The maritime community reps discussed issues related to
the shipping sector and the need to reframe policy structure to uplift the sea
cargo of Pakistan.
After the interactive session, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between
the National Institute of Maritime Affairs and Pakistan National Shipping
Corporation (PNSC) for bilateral cooperation and to promote and
foster joint efforts in the area of research, advocacy and capacity building.
The purpose of the agreement is to improve the research
and collaboration, to promote and intensify the cooperation in maritime domain.
